As I was returning home after dropping my wife off at school I heard a kind of irritating article on the news, to me anyway. The lottery for the 2010 Olympics was yesterday in which those who entered got the chance to get tickets for specific events... and then promptly posted them on Craigslist and Ebay. The report then went on to say that the Vancouver Olympic committee has people trying to sting these folks selling tics by posing as buyers and when they find out who they are they will cancel the tics and make new ones for "deserving" people. The part that irks me is that VanOc is actually putting resources into policing this!
Personally I really dont have an issue with scalping or re-selling tickets. If an individual bought the ticket and someone is willing to pay more for it then who cares, why spend the time and effort to try and monitor it? The event is still getting the revenue they expected, nothing changes except for the identity of the person in the seat, why get all bent out of shape over it and go so far as to police the dang thing!?! It also makes me wonder about people who genuinely did want to go but now find themselves more in need of money than premium seats at the Arctic skeet shooting (I hear Finland is the favorite!) given the downturn of our economy.
