Our kitchen has been going through some growing pains lately, its getting a facelift that it has needed for a long time. I have never been through a reno before and I wasnt sure what to expect exactly...
The one that was in there was 43ish years old with a few bits renewed in 1995 here and there. This time it was completely gutted down to the gyproc, cabinets torn out, plumbing torn out, just a plain room that looked pretty rough around the edges, its internals spilling out where we had ripped away the drywall and exposed it. I was concerned about how this was all going to come together, I realize just how protective I have gotten of my personal space, how much I am bothered by clutter. It cant be helped, and it doesnt affect my thankfulness for how this is coming together, I am just finding it hard to have my attention divided and having my pots and pans behind me as I watch TV.
The cabinets are done today, the plumbing is ready to be done, but just discovered not today, which pushes back the electrical, which pushes back the tiler, just the way it goes I guess. I have gotten used to this to a degree, and need to recognize just how amazing it is that all these people are coming together to give Candace and I a special gift in a new kitchen. For us it is the heart of our home, we both love to cook, to spend time in there. It is where warm smells come from, spices and sweets, tangy and tart, meals fit for well... anyone who will eat them (I dont want to brag but I like to think my wife is the best cook ever... me not so much. If we ask you for dinner inquire as to who is cooking first.) So right now our heart is undergoing a transplant and it is going to be amazing! Our first guest comes on Sunday, though he may get to see our heart more exposed yet than it will be when it is done. I'll post some pics when they become available.
