Escape from the Rock

Today was a cool day, in multiple ways, it was freakin cold and damp here for one, but the stuff we did was pretty awesome. We took a streetcar to Fisherman's wharf, on that trip we met arguably the funniest (in an unintentional way) driver we could have gotten, a transplanted New Yorker with a penchant for yelling at passengers. He was too funny. I cracked up the entire trip, "I am the captain of this trolley, not the mayor of San Francisco... me! You put whatever you want in the fairbox, put your own money in for all I care, just sit down and shut up afterwards." hehe.

Once we got to the wharf we had a great time looking around. I bought I 49ers sweater to keep warm (I didnt pack any warm clothes) and we headed to the Wax Museum. I had never really been to one before and for the most part I was impressed. Some were spot on renditions. The pope being an prime example, but some were just awful. Austin Powers looked just really really bad. His eyes werent even level! Still we got some good pictures and then moved on to other stuff. We did some shopping along the pier, bought some chocolate, hung out until the time came for us to head out to the Rock.

Alcatraz is completely awesome, if you come here you must go. We went at night and it added to the coolness of it. The tour is very well done, essentially an MP3 player you wear but the narration is all done by former guards and inmates. At times it was tragic, at time fascinating, very cool. We then had time to wander freely and check things out for ourselves. The island is eerie for sure, but I cannot express how amazing this historic site really is.

Once we got back we went to the Fog City Diner. Sound familiar? No? How about the movie So I married an Axe Murderer? This is the diner where Mike Myers ate supper with his buddy and their girlfriends. It was such a cool place to eat and the food was AMAZING. Truffle french fries, pot roast, all incredibly good. After that is was the trolley back to the hotel. A big full day, we were all tired. Tomorrow C and I are on our own till our Chinatown tour so we may go to a museum or maybe just maybe we will do absolutely nothing and hole up in our room.
