Day 1 – Leisure Suit Larry

Fun fact: Did you know that the Americans have a one dollar coins and that it looks ridiculously like a Looney? Apparently they are still limited issue, What a bunch of copycats.

I always get nervous at the border, not sure why. I think some of it has to do with the fact that I don't always have the best hearing and the people they train to be border guards seem to all have Laryngitis. The guy today was actually pretty cool though, and we got through without too much trouble. Still, I think it ranks up there with one of the highest amount of stress for the actual stressfulness of the event category. I hate that. After that everything was smooth, the security measures are pretty kooky as I had to take my shoes off. My brother, being ever the prepared one, decided to show me a handful of ballpoint pens right as we were entering security which is always good. HEY! By the way I have a bunch of sharp objects on me, do you think that'll be a problem? *sigh* Thankfully the guy was cool and let us through.

The flight was very cool. They these nifty new interactive TV things on the planes now so you actually get to pick the movie you watch with a touch screen. I felt like I was living in the future, until I got my free headset that looked like Air Canada had maybe pulled these out of a cereal box. Sean watched Bee Movie, I watched the Heartbreak Kid but the flight was over about 5 minutes before the movie was so I am not entirely sure what happened although I have a pretty good idea. A pretty uneven little movie, and I have no idea whether it was edited for the plane or not. All in all a great flight, right up until the pilot decided to drop at a 1000 feet at a time while my stomach remained up there. Sean looked a little concerned but gave a bit of a grin so I am hopeful for the rides we go on in the park.

On the shuttle we met a charming newlywed couple who looked about 12 and made me feel incredibly old, they looked pretty bagged though having just been married the day before (and this was only like 3 in the afternoon so they were up late partying and well… y'know hee heeing). Cool couple though, had a good chat and that broke up the monotony of the trip. LA is generally pretty boring to drive through. "Oh look! Concrete! And more Concrete! Oh look! High Concrete! And Low Concrete!" and so on and so forth ad nauseum etcetera etcetera.

When we got to our hotel I was getting pretty stoked, nice place. The area reminds me a little of White Rock down by the beach. Kinda crammed full of stores, mostly restaurants, although there is a lot more hotels here than WR. We are right across the street from Disneyland and it is just awesome. I am writing this on Mon morning and it is a bit dreary outside but I couldn't be happier, I am allergic to the sun J. The people are crazy friendly and its awesome.

I know some of you think I talk far too much about food, and guess what?! I probably won't do that as much this time round. However, last night Sean and I went to Mimi's, a place recommended to us by a buddy and man was it good. I had the Crab Cake dinner with coleslaw and mashed potatoes, which was very good. I thought the Crab Cakes were good, just not something I would necessarily eat all the time, and the mashed potatoes were freakin amazing. I have no idea what was in em but they were gooooood. Sean had chicken fingers. Yep, you read that right. But even they were, "Wonderful, a delicious meal!" (His own words, he is watching me write this and I know he'll be contributing throughout the week.

Ah, yes, the title of the blog. Well, yesterday there was a guy on our plane that would have made my buddy Lance blush with pride because what Lance does in jest this guy does in all seriousness. Yes, he was proudly sporting a one piece leisure suit with a little belt on the front, which was attached to said leisure suit. I want to make this clear, it was not an actual all the way round belt, but a foot long thing with a buckle in the middle that did nothing but "add to the look". I got to hear him talk… a lot on the plane and as weird as it is, it totally made me understand the look. I seriously cannot describe it but yeah, he made me laugh and knew way more about the plane industry than anyone should who doesn't work in the field, and I know he didn't.

Well, gotta run, Mickey is calling my name…
