Movie time...

So I saw “Hot Fuzz” this week… what an awesome show. Now be warned I mean it was awesome for me. It struck my bizarre and morbid sense of humor in just the right way, complete with a gruesome death that made me laugh and shout “Oh man gross!” simultaneously. Simon Pegg is brilliant, Nick Frost cracks me up, the two together are a modern day Abbott and Costello with liberal doses of British wit thrown in for good measure. If you aren’t familiar with this flick, you may have heard of Shaun of the Dead, the other movie made by this team and director Edgar Wright. That flick was a satire and parody on the Zombie genre with some good laughs thrown in, Hot Fuzz is a parody of Michael Bay movies, with liberal doses of Point Break thrown in. It’s funny and exhilarating to see actors and filmmakers riffing on genres they know so well and clichés that they can’t stand and yet make those other cheesy movies so special. It was a lot of fun and very entertaining, I would recommend it to anyone who has a place in their heart for cheesy violence and British humor.

I have also been watching “On the Lot”, a show I quite enjoy despite the fact the ratings aren’t doing so well. I just can’t figure that out. Granted its original first few episodes were kind of meh, I have really enjoyed watching these filmmakers play in a new sandbox. For the first time people who have worked with no budget suddenly are given a full compliment of people to work with and the results are often very good. There are definitely some that come across as waaaaay out of their league, and two guys I absolutely cannot stand, Marty (who is arguably a good filmmaker but waaay too full of himself) and Kenny (I do not understand the appeal of this guy’s films, they suck, plain and simple. I would say he’s too artsy fartsy but that would be to give the guy too much credit) and a number of whom I quite enjoy. Zach, a guy from Vancouver is one of the frontrunners and he just blew me away. In 24 hours he made a film with incredible special effects that absolutely blew away the competition no question. I feel like they should just give the guy the contract right now. He is the only Canadian in the competition too so it’s pretty cool. Long story short, give it a try you might dig it!

curse you individuals who have real movie theatres... If I wished, I could go and see Spider Man 3 which is finally playing here. They way I figure it, Hot Fuzz will be here by mid December...
