OK, what is wrong with people these days!?! I know this news might be a couple of days old but I just found it and I am blown away by how dumb people can be, so much so I am coming out of my self imposed hiatus to lodge protest. What on earth possessed Archie comics to thorw away the iconic art style they have used for decades in order to do this...
If you are replacing one icon with another fine, OK, give it a shot, but you have just made some of most recognizable characters in the comics industry generic and totally lame. Look at that "art"! So many other characters are drawn that way. This is the same kind of mistake as attempting to change Superman's costume, or Spider-Man's. Imagine drawing Fox Trot this way to appeal to more people, or Charlie Brown, or, or, or.
Some comics are more than the characters, more than the silly stories, their art is a part of what makes them, them.
To me this just emphasizes the fact that the publisher's merely see their characters as product. I get that they have to make money but in my mind they aren't just there to sell Archie, they are they to safeguard their pop icon status. I have had a couple of people wonder if Jughead's beenie will be intact, itself a product of the 50's. Will he now be an iPod sporting, baggy pant wearing kid or what? The art allowed for some innocence in the characters, they were sweet, maybe naive even, and the humor was basic, and there was never anything wrong with that. Are we now saying we need Archie: Laguna Beach to keep up with the times?
I know the art style changed waaay back in the day, but the style we have come to know and love over the years has been that way for the vast majority of its lifespan.

I am also glad to see that Betty and Veronica have now been made to look like every teen girl on Earth, so generic that the artist added kicky necklaces with their initials to distinguish them from the others.
I hope the public outcry is harsh on this one because they totally deserve everything they get. I for one won't be buying Archie for my kids when I have them. Nope, I will simply spend my time telling them how good the old way was, regaling them with tales of what Archie used to be and how I read his comics as I walked uphill both ways to school. Yessir, those were the good old days...
Wait a minute...

Hi Andrew,
You've been tagged to participate in a fun "six weird things about me" list.
Check out mine at:

P.S.
I just showed Madeline and Arron the new and not-so-improved Archie look. Madeline (who is seven years old) said, "That's just weird. It doesn't even look like Betty and Veronica. They look too real. They don't look like cartoon characters anymore." Send that to the publisher and tell him to smoke it in his pipe!
